Studio Amy Art.
Born in Trenton, NJ into a family transplanted from NYC, my early years were divided between city life and the coastal shores. Growing up in New Jersey created quite a unique upbringing as I could experience a change in landscape within an hours drive in any direction. Hills, farms, historic small towns, major cities and the beaches of the coast all contributed to the evolution of my art, as my subjects are my interpretations of nature.
I create intuitively and spontaneously as I rarely plan a piece ahead of time. Designs begin in my sketchbook as a way for me to wind down from my day. Taking my pen or pencil, I sketch curves and lines and let the flow turn into something that almost always represents nature and then I tighten up the design with color and textures until I have my finished piece. The graphic designer in me comes through with a heavy use of bold lines, patterns, contrast and colors that vibrate. The surf and sun are my most frequent subjects as these two forces of nature heal me when I need a change of scenery to recharge and regroup. I create on wood and mixed media paper and boards. My paintings on wood typically incorporate a variety of mediums including acrylic, inks and gels. My drawings can be combinations of watercolor, ink, colored pencil and pastel or just simple black & white ink drawings.
